Small terrier breeds originated from
Ireland and Great Britain. This is a species of dogs that are wiry, fearless
and are small in size. Terrier dog breeds are mostly classified based on their
functions or size. There are several commonly known terrier dog breeds.
1. Airedale Terrier
These small terrier dog breeds are easy
to train. They are black saddle with a tan head, ears and less. They have a
very hairy coat which make them look very attractive. They are quite energetic
and they need to be kept busy. They easily get bored when left idle. Their
intelligence is quite high hence they make good watchdogs when well trained.
They like playing in water or playing outdoors.
2. American Staffordshire Terrier
They are are often referred to as 'all
American dogs' because they are social to all age groups. They are a mix of the
black and white terrier. This terrier dogs breed is very sociable when well
trained. It can however be very fierce if not made part of the family. It obeys
its master and can give up its life to safe the master. You probably didn't see
this coming, did you? They like when kept busy but easily get bored when left
idle. They provide a good security to the family when well taken care of.
3. Australian Terrier
This breed was developed in Australia
although its ancestors were from Great Britain. These small terrier dog breeds
are naturally very fierce and alert. They have a rough coat with shades of blue
or red with tan markings in the ears, legs, face and some other parts of the
body. They often keep their tails docked most of the time. These small terrier dog breeds have a
high intelligence making them easy to train. They are very social with people
and make good companions at home. Male terriers of this breed are often
unfriendly to other male dogs.

Bedlington Terrier
These small
terrier dog breeds resemble lambs. They are actually 'dogs in sheep clothing.'
They have curly coats with rough texture. They can make good friends to
children but very fierce when attacked by other dogs. They are very good
swimmers because they are quick and quite enduring.
5. American Hairless Terrier
As the name suggests they don't have hairy
coats.They have high IQ level, alert and energetic making them easy to
train.They are also very energetic and strong. They like playing around,running
here and there. They bark fiercely when alarmed making them good watchdogs.
They are good at hunting although their hairless coats make it hard to use them
when hunting in bushy places.

Bull Terrier
These small dog terrier
breeds look funny. They have slightly flat forehead which make their heads to
appear egg-shaped when seen from the front. They are the only breeds with
triangular eyes in the whole dog kingdom. They are mostly white in color with a
black sharp nose. They are courageous, alert and loving to people of all age
groups. However, they can be hostile if not well trained.
Dog pet lovers can find terrier breeds
cool to keep. Moreover they are easy to manage and train.There are other good breeds such as Toy Fox Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier or the Skye Terrier. They are good
companions and help provide security. You can never get bored with these breeds
due to their playful nature.
